Recommended Flaneur Society read: The Life and Death of Great American Cities by Jane Jacobs. As described by Judith Rodin, “Jane Jacob was…opinionated, intelligent, outspoken, and guided by her conviction that pursuing equity and fairness in urban planning was essential for cities to remain vital and thrive.” That’s right! Although her thinking originated in the 50’s and 60’s these concepts remain relevant and essential to planning today.

The thing that attracts us to the city is the chance encounter, the knowledge…that something unexpected will happen along the way, that you’ll make a discovery. And that, in a way, is the magic of cities.
